Thor really rocks!

Since things have been so rough around here lately, I wanted to give the kids a treat and took them to see a movie over the weekend. We chose Thor and WOW was it awesome! Anyone seen it yet? Randy wasn't feeling up to going and urged me to just take the kids. With Arielle graduating this weekend, I want to spend as much time as possible with her. She'll be leaving for college in two months. Need to build up all those last minute memories.

I've always loved the Norse God of Thunder. He's been seen in various forms on film from the cartoon versions to Adventures in Babysitting and now the current movie. Each version showed the unbelievable muscles, gorgeous face and long blonde hair.

When so many movies make us walk out wishing we'd saved the $50 and bought a video game instead, its nice to enjoy it and not regret the cost. I can't recommend the movie enough. There were lots of laughs, cringes and outright cheers during the movie. If you want to escape reality for a bit, I'd suggest this is the movie you want to see. The only part that made me slap my forhead and yell "NO!" was when they made Loki the stolen baby of a frost giant. The story didn't need to be made up.

I'll be buying the movie as soon as it comes out on Blue Ray. Probably around Christmas it should be out.

G-Force Movie Review

The kids and I had a free day yesterday, nothing really planned, so we loaded in the car and went off to find a movie. What did we choose? G-Force. The matinee was half price, so we all agreed, even if it was bad, at least it wouldn't break the bank.

We were all rolling during the movie. This included a too cool 14-year old boy. :) The movie is cute and you don't have to be afraid to take your kids to see it. They use a lot of bathroom humor. The mice urge one of the guinea pigs to "poop in his hand" as a way to escape and they lit the farts of another guinea pig to try and blow a hole in their cage. Yeah, silly, but kids love it!



If you haven't seen it and were putting it off because it looked too silly, go ahead and go. It's something everyone can laugh at. With the way life is these days, we all need to laugh and just forget real life for a couple hours. Right?

Movie Night! AKA Harry Potter!!!

We haven't been to the drive in for over two years, but last night, we loaded up the truck and off we went! What kept me out way past my bedtime? Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, of course! I've read all the books and we have all the movies on DVD so far and this will be another one we'll add.

I won't spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it yet, but it stayed pretty true to the book. The most crutial scenes were practically word-for-word from the book. Always a good thing! Why mess with perfection?



The movie is quite DARK and some of the scenes would probably scare younger kids, but my two are 14 and 17 and thought nothing of it. There is the death of a beloved character and lots of snogging (making out), so make sure your kids and you are ready for that.

Hubby wasn't as thrilled with this one because it didn't settle anything. It just left many questions unanswered. That's because the final book is being made into two ... yes TWO ... movies!!

The second feature was The Proposal. We really didn't expect much from it. Romantic comedies are not our thing at all, but we were truly surprised and enjoyed it! We laughed and laughed. Betty White truly stole the show and made the movie. You have to see her in the woods. I still laugh when I picture the scene. :)

Mama Mia

Has anyone else seen this movie? Mom, Arielle and I watched it tonight. We were going to go out for a movie, but decided to stay in when it was snowing so hard. The movie is excellent! Had us all singing along and dancing.

I can understand why it made so much money at the box office. :) The movie tells the story of a young woman who is getting married and wants her father to walk her down the aisle. Only problem is there are three potentials fathers. She finds their names in her mother's old diary, so she invites all three to the wedding without her mother's knowledge. The movie is hysterical as she tries to keep her mother from finding out she invited them while trying to figure out which one is her father.

I won't give away the ending if you haven't seen it yet. I highly recommend it, especially if you love the music of ABBA. :)

Twilight the movie

I finally got to see the movie today. Took my kids and we went to the matinee, hubby had no interest in it. Good thing he was working today. Had to stop at two stores to find the third book. We had borrowed it from the library and finally own a copy. :) Now we have all four of them. We'll read them over and over.

The movie was pretty good. It wasn't perfect though. I didn't like what was done to Jacob's character, but it wasn't completely awful. We'll see how he changes for the second movie.

Emmet was spot on. That's how I pictured him while reading. Alice, I thought would be smaller, more pixie-like, but the mannerism were definitely right. Edward was good. I liked him, but son didn't. Guess it's a girl thing! :) Bella was a good choice. I didn't like Carlisle. That's not how I pictured him and he just reminded me of a blond Tom Cruise and I do not like him. Jasper was good. I can see him as the character. Esme, too, but I thought she was blond? Rosalie, well, she isn't the gorgeous creature described in the books. The actress just wasn't that pretty.

What did everyone think? Any other fans out there?

Review: Jumper

We had seen the ads for this movie, but never got to see it at the theater, so we grabbed the DVD the other day. Not sure what to expect from it, but it was a very good movie! Has anyone else seen it?

The premise behind the movie is: A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them "Paladins."

It was obvious they're hoping for a second movie from the storyline and all the cliffhangers. The movie is good for tweens and up. There wasn't overt sex or language. There was violence, so maybe real young children would be scared, but it wasn't a big slaughter scene.

Tonight, we're going to borrow my parents' DVD of Charlie Wilson's War. With Tom Hanks as the star, I'm sure it'll be good.

The Golden Compass

Our 13-year old son read the trilogy the movie is based on and absolutely loved it, so we went out and bought the DVD over the weekend. An added bonus from WalMart was a Ty beanie of the polar bear. He's soft and is sitting happily on my night stand beside my Ty beanie bear Peace.

Since it's pretty rare for an epic fantasy movie to come even close to what the book is, I truly wasn't expecting that much, but was pleasantly surprised. It didn't follow the book exactly, the movie would have been several hours long. They did cut quite a bit, but there was enough to follow the story.

The movie was very good and I enjoyed every minute of it. Our son kept telling us what was wrong with the movie, but eventually, he got into the movie and just enjoyed it for what it was. The polar bears and daemons were great and looked very real.

I'm looking forward to the next installment in the world of His Dark Materials.

Short Bike Trip

Just had to get out of the house yesterday, so when Randy got home from work, we loaded up the bikes and headed out to our favorite trail.

We only did an eight mile trip this time, I wasn't feeling real well. We had to stop quite a bit on this one, but that's the only way I could make it. The kids liked having the chance to explore more often, so it worked out ok.

On our way back, they were a couple yards ahead of us when we heard them yelling and saw they were stopped. When we get there, they said a bear had just run across the trail. It had been down by the river eating skunk cabbage and when it heard them ran up the other side of the hill. I missed seeing it! Maybe next time.

We did get to see a blue heron, so that was a good way to end the trip.

Tonight, we're heading off to the drive in. Shrek 3 and Blades of Glory are playing. Both look good.
