Confirmation Sunday

Today was a big day for my baby. He took a step towards manhood and was confirmed. I don't make it a secret that I believe everyone should have the right to choose their own religion and path in life. Mine isn't one many can take, but I couldn't take many other paths. I send my children to church with my parents and they have each decided to go through the classes and be confirmed. Today, it was Trevor's turn. I grew up in that church and also was confirmed there, so hearing the familiar words and seeing him receive his Bible and certificate brought back sweet memories. I didn't cry until he brought me back a red rose. The Pastor stopped by my pew before church started and asked me if I was ready for this. Sure, why not? Then he reminded me that this was my baby. In my head, I knew that, but my heart wasn't and still isn't ready to admit he's grown up that much already.

I was so proud of him standing up there in front of the congregation. Yeah, he had his hair in his eyes, but that's his choice. I try not to force him to do things when they really don't matter. Looks to me are completely unimportant. He had on clean clothes (even a TIE!!!), so that was good enough for me.

Camera Critters #60

When we were in Ohio earlier this week, we went to an Akron Aeros minor league baseball game with my best friend Kim. Before the game started, we saw this bird hopping around the seats behind us. Thought it would make a perfect entry for today's Camera Critters.

Skywatch Friday 46

After leaving my appointment at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday, we saw this interesting cloud formation over the parking garage. Of course, I had to have a photo to see if anyone out there knows what type of clouds they are???

Camera Critters #59

I took this image when we were visiting my FIL the other day. Just a chance shot that turned out pretty cool, I think. :)

Didn't I say I was tired of living in interesting times?

Well, apparantely, someone didn't listen. I was just trying to get some sleep this morning after Randy got home from work and the phone rings. It's the school nurse, "Your son was hurt in gym class." OK, is it bad? Do I need to get him? "Well, I think it's just he didn't eat breakfast." Umm ... how did he get hurt? He got KNEED IN THE HEAD during dodge ball. I'm on my way. Just as I was throwing on clothes, the phone rings again, a source is calling to let me know there was a school bus wreck in a near-by town. OK, son isn't hurt too bad, so I can pick him up and he can sleep in the backseat while I go to the wreck for photos. Called my mother to drive since I'm on too much good stuff to do that safely.

We get to the school, he can't pick his head up. I help him stand and get him to his locker, so we can leave. He start throwing up. OK, off to the local med express. They take one look at why he's there and want to call an ambulance to take him to near-by hospital for emergency CT scans of his head. We decide it would be faster to drive ourselves. Mom is going about 80. She NEVER goes more than 5 miles UNDER the speed limit.

The hospital sends him for scans and decides he needs x-rays of his neck, too. He spent the whole time throwing up. That concerned the doc and showed he took a really hard hit to the head. By now, his eye is swelled and turning black. The scans both say he's ok, but will need to have further checking tomorrow.

Now I'm here with him, have to keep checking him to make sure he's alert and knows what's going on. He'll stay home from school tomorrow. I'm supposed to spend the day with the Lt. Governor, but it'll depend on how he's doing.

I'm afraid to ask what next....

Election Day

Don't forget it's election day in the USA, so get out and VOTE! Nothing can change unless we take that first step and get involved. It's not a Presidential election, but local elections can affect our lives just as much.

Can we keep it? (AKA Camera Critters #58)

So I'm sitting at the computer, trying to catch up on a pile of assignments while I'm still able to sit upright when my two teenagers come running in the house. My 14-year old son has something in his hands and says the four words mothers around the world dread to hear - "Can we keep it?" Shuddering after his last wanna-be pet snake, I turn around and find a scared little baby bunny. He's beyond adorable, but we can't have a baby bunny or the wrath of the evil Darth Mittens will fall on all of us. Aphrodite is dancing all around, trying to figure out what the new smell is, but she's harmless.

Being the softy I am, I tell them to call their father who is on his way to work. I know he'll tell them "NO!", so that leaves me off the hook as being the bad one in this. (Devious, huh??) I take a few photos and tell them to take the bunny back where they found it and not to touch anymore of them. Hopefully, the mother will still take care of it. They were out mowing yards and found it in a rosebush.

KIDS!!!
