The Rainbow Bridge

Thank you for the comments about my precious Adonis. Losing your best friend is truly a nightmare, so it's nice to log on and find words of comfort waiting.

I truly believe we'll be reunited with our furry friends when we're done with this life. I feel sorry for those who don't have the same faith.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge
When an animal dies that has been especially close to
someone here that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food water and
sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
~
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and
strong again..just as we remember them in our dreams of
days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content..
except for one small thing..
they each miss someone very special to them
who had to be left behind.
~
They all run and play together but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes
are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to
run from the group flying over the green grass..his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
~
You have been spotted and when you and your special friend
finally meet you cling together in joyous reunion..
never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your
face..your hands again caress the beloved head and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet..so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart."

Losing your pet is one of the saddest things that can happen. My cat of 17 years, Hazel, died last year and I was heartbroken for a long time. Rarely a day goes by when I don't have a thought of her cross through my mind. Now they make me smile as I remember all the things that I loved about her. Time heals ... and the Rainbow Bridge helped me immensely. I read it often.

One of the things that helped was creating a little place in my garden where I planted catmint and put a small metal cat sculpture.

thinking of you ... here's a hug,
kate oxoxo

Hi, Gretchen, thanks for stopping by. I'm so sorry for your recent loss of you special Adonis. I have never read the Rainbow Bridge poem (but had heard of it), so thanks for sharing that. It's very touching. I loved my dog dearly too & I can say now I have really fond, happy memories of her & not as much sadness. The first week was the hardest for me. I couldn't talk about her without crying. Now, I can talk about her happily & with wonderful memories.

Hello Gretchen, I am so sorry to hear about Adonis. What a beautiful dog. I love that poem I first read it about 10 years ago when I volunteered quite a bit at a non kill shelter.

Your dog looked like a lovely setter. You obviously had a wonderful relationship. You will always remember him with great affection.

When I first read "rainbow bridge" I thought you were referring to the bridge at Niagara Falls between our counties.

It's tough to lose a pet. I don't look forward to the passing of this wonderful, old, furry guy who right now is being good enough to share the computer desk with me.

So sorry to hear baout your beautiful dog Gretchen. This quote helped me when I lost my George 2 years ago:
"I think God will have prepared everything for our perfect happiness. If it takes my dog being there in Heaven, I believe he'll be there."
Rev. Billy Graham

Thanks for your visit :)
